Midway - April 2000 Fishing Report

April 2000 Report
Report by Rick Gaffney

The first serious anglers of the year, Gordon Moore of Intel and his family, just got back from Midway last Saturday. They caught 31 Ono (one of which was taken in 52' of water), 9 Ahi, 2 Mahimahi, 2 Ulua, 27 Butaguchi (thick-lip Trevally), a Hamachi (Japanese yellowtail--another member of the jack family) and an assortment of other fish ranging from Uku (Gray Snapper) to Hapu'u (Hawaiian grouper).

In all, they released 47 fish and fought (but did not land) both a Blue Marlin estimated at 500 pounds and a
Stripey on light tackle aboard the 38' Bertram, Enterprise, with Captain Lincoln Ahlo.

The surface water temp off shore is 72 degrees, with sunny weather and calm waters. Shore line fishing has been good, with several Ulua caught, along with Kahala, and Butaguchi
