Variety Fishing with Captain Jeff Rogers

  • Type of Gear Used:  A large variety of heavy & light trolling, stand-up, casting and jigging tackle. No fly tackle provided. Anglers can also bring their own gear if they want (please check with the skipper first).

Capt. Jeff fishes the nearshore deep ledges trolling for marlin, tuna, mahi mahi, spearfish and ono. Upon entering the bottom fishing grounds (about an hour of trolling from the harbor) Capt. Jeff switches tackle to fish for a wide variety of bottom fish such as shark, amberjack, almaco jack, trevally, grouper and snapper. Bottom fishing is usually quick action! The emphasis for the day will be your choice of catching a bunch of  fish or spending most of the trip searching for the elusive marlin. Enjoy the beautiful scenery of the Kona coast while fishing for a wider variety of fish than is offered by any other charter!  This is a great trip for families and anglers of all ages.

Because Capt. Jeff uses a variety of fishing techniques for a variety of species, he has nearly a 100% success rate on his full day charters and anglers get to keep their food fish.  Capt. Jeff releases all small marlin, sharks, amberjacks, almaco jacks and trevally unless the fish is a potential record.

My new wife and I caught a small yellowfin, 4 Amberjack (30 lbs +) and we hooked and fought a 300 lb+ shark for over 20 minutes before it broke off. All on standup tackle. I am not sure the shark knew that he was hooked, however he did a lot of damage to our muscles in the short battle. Very exciting. Next time we visit again, I would like to take this same charter, but at least one more day on the water. Awesome Trip !"
