Kai Bear markets itself as one of the finest operations in all of Hawaii, and they believe the presentation of their product is the key to their business. Co-Captain's Ben Ellsworth, Jordan Barefoot and Lance Keener are all experienced Kauai fishermen who are both professional and safety conscious.

In addition to deep sea trolling and baiting methods, these well equipped boats will do bottom fishing upon request (private charters only), fly fishing, weddings, funerals, whale watching, and romantic sunset cruises which even include your first bottle of champagne. They will also do serious overnight fishing trips to places such as Niihau, Nihoa, Kaula Rock, the Middle Bank, and Lehua Rock.

Both Kai Bear and the Grander have new (2004) Cummins 315HP twin diesel engines which provide a quiet, smoke free ride. Both Kai Bear boats are currently equipped with custom built rods by Blue Water and Penn Gold Reels ranging in size from 30 class to 130 class. They also carry light tackle spinning rods on board for special occasions.

As for the disposition of the fish, the captain and crew will cut table fish for all guests aboard the boat upon availability.

For those who would like to share a boat with others rather than charter privately, Kai Bear Sportfishing offers the following share trips. Rates are plus 10% sales/harbor tax and a temporary fuel surcharge of $15/person:

4 Hour Morning or Afternoon Trip: 6 person maximum*, 4 person minimum* - $159.00/person
6 Hour Morning or Afternoon Trip: 6 person maximum*, 4 person minimum* - $239.00/person
4 Hour 1/2 Boat Split Charter: Split a boat with another party. You can have from 1 to 3 people in your group. Your group gets 50% of the rods. The trip will run even if the boat does not get another party to split with you. - $475 for the 1/2 boat, not per person
6 Hour 1/2 Boat Split Charter: Split a boat with another party. You can have from 1 to 3 people in your group. Your group gets 50% of the rods. The trip will run even if the boat does not get another party to split with you. - $715 for the 1/2 boat, not per person

* Note: the # of persons minimum means the boat must have at least the minimum number of passengers to run the trip. However, your group (or single) can be less than the minimum, and Kai Bear Sportfishing will try to match you with others wanting to go to make the minimum number of passengers.
