The Weekly Fishing Line

February 1999

Week of 2/22 - 2/28

Blue Marlin seem to be slowing down a bit with only a few reports coming in. Still good action for Striped Marlin and Spears in the Molokai channel, and some Ono have been coming in around the ledges at Diamond Head, Kahala. Mahimahi have all but left the scene, but they’ll be back soon....you can count on it.

Week of 2/15 - 2/21

Good sized Marlin still coming in off the P buoy down at the Banks, and there is still a plentiful supply of Mahimahi coming in at the debris piles. Waianae anglers have also been reporting good Marlin and Mahi activity, and the weather has been fairly cooperative of late, although there were a few rough days late in the week.

Highlights of the week include a 300lb Marlin from P buoy and a ton of Mahi coming in from various places where the trash is....find the cargo net and find the Mahi.

Week of 2/8 - 2/14

Marlin are still showing in good numbers this week after an awesome run in January. Several Blue Marlin, Stripes and Spears have been reported by both the commercial and recreation fleets at the FADS, the thousand fathom line and the Banks, causing us to wonder if it’s going to slow down any time soon. Also filling the boxes is an abundance of Mahimahi and Aku, found near the trash that seems to be plentiful. The yellowfin and Ono haven’t come around in strong numbers yet, with only a few catches being reported.

Highlights for the week include a 280lb Blue, a 20 Mahi day, and one boat losing 2 giant Blues off the back of the boat (not sure if that’s really a highlight, but the action was sure good).
