Comments from Visiting Anglers - page 4
| From Terrence Clark who chartered Magic Thank you very much for getting us on the Magic! Russell was the most serious and dedicated charter captain I have ever fished with. He was constantly using the binoculars, monitoring the lines, checking with other charter captains, studying the waves, currents, birds and their flight patterns, etc., etc. etc.. When the other boats came back, he stayed out and we caught a 152 lb. Tuna, as well as hooking a Marlin and three Mahi Mahi. The same day, many of the other boats got skunked. The first mate, Eric, was a delight and really a class act, not typical at all of the deck hands usually hired. He is also a licensed charter boat captain, very knowledgeable, an entertaining personality and a really hard worker. The boat was immaculately clean, polished and well maintained, without any smells anywhere except the natural ocean breezes. The boat handled the off shore swells with ease and no one got sea sick. The fishing gear was the best money could buy and meticulously cared for. After every strike, each component of the fishing system was closely analyzed for any areas of wear or weakness, and if even a tiny scratch got on the line, it was immediately replaced. They changed the lures and bait frequently to find the best presentation for the fish. Truly a world class fishing experience. I have chartered fishing trips from Mexico, San Diego, Florida, Louisiana, Texas, Nova Scotia, British Columbia and Alaska. I own my own midsize fishing boat and fish extensively in Oregon and the San Juan Islands of Washington state. Nothing tops fishing on the Magic, it is as good as it gets! My only regret was that I couldn't stay longer and fish again. Next time in Oahu we will definitely go on the Magic again! Thank you very much and Aloha! |
| From Georganne & Dale of Hilton Head, SC who fished on Eclipse We could not have had a more thrilling time on our wonderful excursion with Bill and his mate, Dell, on our first deep sea fishing experience. This adventure deserves more than a 5 rating in all of your categories. We felt like old friends immediately after meeting each other. The boat was so unique, especially since it was built by Bill's father - we're sure Bill had his hands in on the construction too. We had super gear, including having aboard quite a sight to see - none other than all of your own gear. We certainly stood in awe observing all the unusual gear - quite different from small hooks and sinkers that we are accustomed to. Bill's heart was all in to satisfying us in every way with his determination in us pulling in our first blue marlin which caused us to stay out for an extra hour - but we did it!!! What an ending to a glorious adventure!!! We can't thank you enough for your confirmation on our selection of using the Eclipse, totally unknown to us. Your immediate e-mails, phone calls and plain personal determination to satisfy us in every way couldn't have been better. We so enjoy your e-mails, including photographs. Maybe someday our pictures will be sent to all with a possible record catch. We would be embarrassed to send you a picture of our record fish here - but it will get better. No comparison to your beautiful blue waters. Thank you again so very much for being so accommodating -
and please thank Bill again for us - we miss him!!! |
| From Lori of Tallahassee, FL who
chartered Magic Rich and I enjoyed our trip with the Magic very much. We had a slow start, but ended up catching a 140 lb Ahi, a 185 lb Ahi and a 175 lb Blue Marlin. We both agreed that the trip on the Magic was the highlight of our Hawaiian vacation. We would give the Magic and its crew a "5" in
each of the categories you requested our evaluation. Rich and I both had an opportunity to
fight a big fish. The boat was maintained in excellent condition and the crew was
extremely courteous and helpful We found the equipment to be in great shape..There is no
question that we will book a trip on our next trip to Hawaii. We would book our trip
through your service and have already recommended you to friends planning vacations to
Hawaii in the future. |
| From Doug of Sydney, Australia who
chartered Magic I cannot overstate the effort
the Captain and crew aboard Magic put into trying to catch a marlin. This includes
several additional hours over and above our allocated time. Unfortunately, we were not
lucky this time but we had a very pleasurable day and would love to do it again. |
| From John of Maidens, VA who chartered
Fish Wish The experience
was wonderful. Everyone in my family got to catch a fish, including a 200 pound blue that
my wife swore she couldn't bring in, but she did. Even my 6 year old got a skipjack tuna.
Captain Kent and his crew were marvolous, patient, and entertaining. My only complaint - I
didn't get a 2000lb black! You made it easy, and I based on my first experience, you did it right. Why mess with that that works! There is a simple axiom in business, customer loyalty comes from a first experience that exceeds expectations - this did. |
| From Max who chartered Kamome Hi Mike. We did go fishing on the Kamome last Friday. Had a great trip, caught some fish. One 47 pound male Mahimahi.. My son is going to have it mounted so he can put it on his wall. We ate one of the MahiMahi. The restaurant at the hotel fixed it for us. It was great. Thanks for the help. The captain and his mate were very competent and helpful. Maybe I will return to Hawaii someday. Thanks again. |
| From Mike of Carmel, IN You have a wonderful web site. Just visited Kauai in June, would
have been much easier to set up my fishing charter if I had know about this site back
then. My wife (her first deep sea experience) and I did fish with Kai Bear...they were
super. Caught 20 & 25 lb Ono in only 4 hour trip. |
| From Earl who chartered Start Me Up I just wanted to send a brief note to let you know that these guys are the best I have ever fished with. They were all that you said and more. The experience watching my 17 year old son fighting the fish that we eventually lost after an hour and a half is one that I will never forget, and I am very glad that we were with Doug and Jimmy. There was no doubt that they did everything possible to bring in the fish, including backing over the remaining lines that had yet to be brought back in, diverting a tug, and giving Nicholas ( my son ) all of the assistance that could be expected. Thank you so much for your recommendation of Start Me Up. |
| From Keith of Austin, TX who chartered
Sea Verse The fishing
trip was great. I truly enjoyed it. The crew was very polite, friendly and worked hard for
us. I caught a marlin, which fulfilled a dream. The boat was very well maintained. I
have fished on some where the disel smell made you sick, but his boat was obviously well
tuned to prevent that from happening. We were the last boat in that day, which tells you
he tried extra hard to get us more fish. I have already recomended you to some
others. Mainly gave out your web address. |
| From Mark who chartered Magic The trip, boat, crew, the service, and fishing were great!!! They all rate a 5. The info on the magic and Russell were just as you discribed, infact I have already been refering this site to several people. Our trip was super, for a 8 hour trip it lasted 12 hours. We caught the biggest and the most for the dock that day. We caught 4 yellow ( 170, 150, 150, and 125 lbs ) and a big barracuda. Regarding fishing Hawaii, I have talked to friends that are already talking about a trip next year. Mike, Thanks for everything |
| From Randy & Rob who chartered Kai
Bear Just a note to thanks for setting us up
for a half-day of fishing on the Kai Bear. My son and I got into bunch of Mahi Mahi,
and really hammered 'em for a couple of hours. Mark and Tim really did a great job
for us. Thanks again for the recommendation. We look forward to our next trip
to Kauai so we can do it again. |
| From Don of Haleiwa Thanks for providing this excellent site. Really good for the industry, also entertaining for us locals when we can't get out there! |
| From Storm who chartered Spellbound Our trip on Spellbound was a lot of fun. Unfortunately the fish just weren't out there for us. We caught five or six little 1-2 lb bait fish and about a 12lb Yellowfin. Such are the breaks of fishing. However the boat and crew were great I would give them a five in every category. We would definitely fish Hawaii again and use your service to reserve our trip, as well as recommending it to our friends. Hopefully the fish will be a little more hungry next time!! But we definitely had a positive experience anyhow. |
| From Steve of Pearl City You have a great website!! I really enjoy your fish reports. Thanks for the info. |
| From Jim who chartered Magic We had a terrific experience and scored a spearfish and yellow fin tuna among others. It was a great day and the skipper and crew were very courteous and helpful. As you know I took my son and daughter with me and I really appreciated the effort the crew gave to coaching them while the fish were on. My daughter caught a 125# tuna which was the thrill of her life and did wonders, I'm sure, to endear her to the sport for many years to come. I can guarantee you that our next visit to Hawaii will include another day or more of charter fishing which I will definitely book through your organization. Your web site was very helpful in making the selection and answering questions about the charter experience in Hawaii. I will recommend you to others. |
| Fax from Michael who chartered Fish Wish
for 3 days for the Kona Classic We sent Michael
a fax asking if he would fish in Hawaii again and he answered: Absolutely. If I
could afford it, I'd be there now with Kent warming up for this weekend. Thanks
Mike, you made booking a specific boat for specific dates amazingly easy and dependable. |
| From Jeremy who charted the Wild Bunch This is Jeremy, my brother Josh and I went out on The Wild Bunch on
6/13. We had a beautiful day, Bob McCowan & Clint were great, we already
recommended them to my friend's parents that live on Oahu and sport fish quit a bit. Great
guys to hang out with and we ended up catching 21 Mahi and a Skipjack. |
| From Kent who is chartering Maka Hou II I found your web site thru Yahoo after entering "Kauai sport fishing" going to the "web sites" after the initial selection was offered, and searching through several sites. Yours was the most informative, had some excellent advice/background info., had several boats to choose from, and it looked like you had a very good handle on what was going on. My son and I have learned a lot from the site. |
| From Vito after his trip on Kuu Huapala Thanks for all your help in setting up the trip. My wife, my cousin and I had a
great time . The sea was a little rough at times but we coped. The captain and mate did
well in making us feel comfortable and made every possible effort to give us the
opportunity to catch fish. I would certainly use your services again if back to Hawaii.
The boat was more than seaworthy, it handled well and was very comfortable. We caught a
spear fish which we tagged and as a matter of fact I just received the tag and release
certificate from the bill fish foundation as promised by captain freeman which by the by
he was very very nice. Please say hello to him from all of us. If anyone is interested in
your services, I will certainly refer them to you. Overall it was a big 5. |
| From Dennis after his trip on Sea Verse Fishing was great, we caught several fish and the captain and the
deck hand were both good and put us into alot of fish. Also for the record on the way back
@ 4:00pm Lee turned the boat into some birds and we hooked up 4 more Mahi I think we
caught 12 total for the day. This took about another 30 minutes but boy was it worth it.
Next time you see or talk to him thank him again for me and tell him that little extra
effort made all the difference |
| From Wayne-Darrell-Tom after their trip
on Sea Verse The captain and deck hand on the Sea Verse were great couldn't ask for a better crew....the boat conditions were great and all the equipment was perfect....I would refer the Sea Verse to anyone looking for a great charter...we had a wonderful time the best charter ever. If asked we will refer your business and next time we go to Hawaii you'll definitely hear from us.Thank you for your time and effort on getting us this charter...what can I say...IT WAS GREAT! |
| From Jeff W after his trip on Kamome Thanks for your help in arranging my fishing trip last week (at the last minute). I/we had a great time although we didn't catch anything. The sea, the view, the weather were all GREAT. My initial goal was to catch something, but as the boat pulled in to the dock I felt fulfilled! We went out on the Kamome. Gary and crew were very hospitable
and worked hard for us. |
| From Ed W: "Hi there: Will be in Hawaii soon, and am interested in a 1/2 of full day trip for one. Willing to go with others, possibly smaller vessels as noted on your website (very nice and concise, I may add). Please E-mail additional possibilities. Looking forward to receiving further info." |
| From Karen H: "Thank you for your input! My parents are the fishermen in the family, and I think they would agree with what you had to say (about fishing and not always striking it big - or at all). I don't want to them to venture out to sea with some unknown boat, either, so I will give them your selections and let them decide. Thank you again!" |
| From Paul K: "Thanks for the effort! I have a referral from one of my customers who trout fishes with us each year. He fly fishes Kona as well as runs a big boat. I have yet to contact him, but, intend to do so very soon! I appreciate your efforts and will keep you in mind. Might give you a call while I'm there since I have some options open to me. I initially e-mailed "6" charter folks and you are 1 of 2 that responded. Taking the effort and time goes a long way in my book. Thank you again. " |
| From Laurie N: "Coming out to visit in mid July. Looking for boats on (Kauai and Kona) both islands above. How is the fishing in Kauai? Can you do small boat reef fishing or bottom fishing 1/2 day? Thought we'd try one day for marlin or yellowfin and maybe another day for greater action - more plentiful smaller fish. Love your site. I'll be back." |
| From Tim B: "Glenn M. was kind enough to point me in the (electronic) direction of your excellent web pages. I am a University Lecturer from London, England and I am visiting his laboratory for 3 weeks from the 2nd to the 24th March. Whilst in Hawaii, I would really like to go out fishing, particularly as in the Pacific there is the chance of catching fish such as Marlin, which we do not have in UK waters. Whilst perusing your web pages, I noticed that there is a tournament on the 6/7 March. Even though I usually fish just for pleasure here in England (freshwater fish or what we call course fish), I thought it would be really nice to go out maybe on Saturday the 6th March for the day and take part in the tournament. Please could you recommend a boat for me. Our web site is not nearly as nice as yours, but if you have a moment you might like to look at what I do and where I work." |
| From Sandy K: "Your site is very informative and in good taste. Wife and I will be on Waikiki the last week of Feb. May do some fishing. Please advise of local conditions [i.e. type of species in season, weather, forecast, accommodations, fees, etc." |
| From Dennis M: "Mike, either one sounds great so since my preference would be to go on Thursday. Whomever can accommodate us on that day can book us and I will leave it up to you. A captain with a good sense of humor is a must because we like to have a good time. Again thanks for the effort, and I really enjoy reading my e-mail now waiting to see if you landed me a boat." |
| From David O (someone who had booked
a trip but was unable to keep it): "Thank you for all the attention and information you've sent over the last month, it was greatly appreciated. As it turned out, our trip to Hawaii was spent in business mtgs. and the one day we had planned to go fishing the group wanted to golf instead. I was disappointed, but I was told the winds were so high that fishing would have been very uncomfortable anyway. We did have a wonderful time overall and look forward to returning to the islands for a strictly leisure visit." |
| From John E (before his trip): "Thanks for the help. I look forward to hearing from you. I hope you are available at this late date or can line me up with someone as equally competent and attentive." |
| From Lonnie B (after his trip on
Magic): "We did have a great time. The wife got a little sea sick but she still had a great time. We plan to do it again in July. Thanks for your help and I guarantee that we'd recommend the magic again. They were very friendly and helpful. Next time we hope the water is a little calmer for us non-seamen. Thanks again" |
| From John E (after his
trip on Sea Verse. He caught his first Marlin while on his 10th anniversary vacation): "Thanks to Mike House with Sportfish Hawaii for booking the trip. Mike was super in helping Marla and I with questions for other things to do around Oahu as well. Thanks to Lee Severs Captain of Sea Verse for providing me with an excellent boat and equipment as well as enjoyable conversation. Lastly, thanks to (deckhand) Wade for his encouragement and help during the (Marlin) fight - I might have been tempted to cut the line without you there." |
| From Max M: "Your service is great! Very informative. Thanks for the effort. My wife and I would like a full day charter. March 24 or 25 is best since March 23 is our 25th wedding anniversary and we don't want to be too tired!!! The Eclipse looks nice. Is Capt. Ross available? If not available which boats are? Skill and personality are more important than price." |
| From Gerry D: "Found your web site, and it was very helpful. I'll be in Oahu, arriving Fri. and departing (following) Sunday. Of those days, I'll be available for fishing (a full day trip) on Saturday, Sunday, Friday or (following) Saturday. I'm interested in a charter for one of those days, but wonder if any of your boats ever do any fly fishing along with the usual lures and live bait. If so, that would be my preference, but I'm interested in fishing regardless of the tackle!" |
| From Vic S: "Greatly appreciate the personalized and valuable info. Final planning still in flux, so may miss out on these opportunities. If/when plans solidify will advise if still practical. Will also keep you on file for future contact when we visit the islands." |
| From Deanna D: "Thank you for all your help and info. I really appreciate the time you took." |
| From Janet and Al R: "Wow! Mike and Kathy! If I ever have another question, I will remember to go to you, as you have one of the best answers ever via email. Seriously, thanks for being so prompt and thorough, and I applaud your philosophy on Captains, boats and fishing. I'm going to print your email and put my husband (phone-bound only, no computer) right on it tonight. |
| From Scott and Shelley C: "Thank you for getting back to me. My wife, and I are finding out the particulars the beginning of the week and will get back to you. I'd like your help in making this a great trip. Honest people to deal with, in any business, are hard to find. When you find someone, I always recommend "stay put". |
| From Hunter and Heather I (after
their trip): "The trip was excellent. We all had a great time. Thanks for your help. " |
| From Jeff W: They (the boats) all look great! My schedule is going to be pretty full and I don't have a specific day to book at this time. I realize my selection may be limited, but what are the odds I could book something a day or 2 before going out? Let me know, and thanks for all your info. Great Web Site! |
| From Joe F: "I found your site by typing sportfishing on the gateway home page. The search took me to Yahoo where I found your page with several others I chose you because your site seemed to be more specific about fishing Oahu and the information you provided on your site and on the phone was very informative. I felt very comfortable dealing with you. " |
