By Mari Muller Fishing on the M~n~M
Unlike the first Pure Jackpot tournament in April, this one had ideal weather and water conditions. Fifteen captains and their crews took advantage of the great weather to hustle, primarily in search of Ahi! Three made the scoreboard with PALENAKA bringing in a 139.1 lbs. whopper and Hana Paa Hawaii landing a 110.3 ponder. The third largest Ahi was a teenybopper weighing in at 12.9 lbs. But you gotta give POLEKE credit! At every tournament he manages to find that little guy that will put him on the board for some prize money.
The fish of the day was called out at 7:00 a.m. with ONO the designated species and AHI second if no Ono was caught. At 3:00 p.m. it sure looked like the Ahi was going to take the side jackpot but it wasnt over yet! Guess the fat lady didnt sing! We were just ahead of Salty Sea Moi and watched her smoothly skipping over the water unit we saw her take off suddenly then just as suddenly, stop. Five minutes later we heard the call, Salty Sea Moi landed her second fish, this one a 33.8 lb. ONO! Great catch, captain Keith!
